Tornado Luxembourg delivered another memorable hockey night for its fans at Kockelscheuer on Saturday evening. Facing Français Volants, the team sitting 2nd in the group standings, Tornado entered the game as the underdog, holding 7th place.
From the start, Tornado displayed great determination, challenging the Parisiens fiercely. The first period ended in a 2-2 tie, with Tornado’s goals coming from Greg Holodkovs and Antoine Thomas.
The second period saw Tornado creating around million scoring chances but somehow, Français Volants managed to keep their net untouched while scoring two goals themselves. During the intermission, some Tornado fans could be heard wondering how a team could lose a period 2-0 with 95% puck possession. Well, what can one do, that's hockey.
The third period was chaotic, with a flurry of penalties and goals. Adrien Maurer wasted no time, scoring just 21 seconds in and cutting Tornado’s deficit to one goal. Unfortunately, the next four goals went to Français Volants. Even so, Tornado showed resilience, finding the net twice more through Holodkovs and Nathan Faure-Brac.
The final minutes were less about hockey and more about heated discussions with the referees. No additional goals were scored, but penalties piled up as emotions ran high. The game ended 8-5 in favor of the visitors.
The drama didn’t stop with the final whistle. The tunnel saw some "friendly exchanges" between the referees and Français Volants players, and Tornado fans didn’t hide their frustration.
But as one hockey legend says, “It’s time to move on.” Tornado fans won’t have to wait long for their next dose of entertainment, as another team from Paris - Courbevoie - visits Luxembourg next weekend [Tickets there].
